He received his doctorate in education and philosophy at the same university in 1948. Ordained in 1944 Msgr. Maloney was ordained May 15, 1944 in Savannah, by Bishop Gerald O'Hara, and celebrated his first Solemn Mass at St. Joseph's Church He was elevated to monsignor in 1954 when he was appointed private chamberlain to Pope Pius XII. In Atlanta, he has also served as director of the Diocesan Confraternity of the Laity, director of Catholic welfare and pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
