He was a retired Episcopal clergyman, having served as chaplain at the Lehigh University, Bethlehem, of Christ Church, East Orange, N.J.; dean of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior, Faribault, rector of St.

Mark's, Gastonia, N.C.; rector of Cedar Run parish, Casanova, interim rector of St. Mary's, Fleeton, and Grace Church, Kilmarnock, Va. He was a World War I U.S. Navy chaplain corps with service in the South Pacific and was active In the Naval Reserves, obtaining the rank of survived by Mary Lieutenant He Is Commanders. (Brewer) Allen; two sons, Charles R.

Allen Jr. of Roanoke, and Mark W. Allen of Weerns, two daughters, Mary Ann Cowherd of Culpeper, and Elizabeth Gray of Albuquerque, N.M.; and nine grandchildren. 4) at Mount Sinai Hospital. He was born in Hartford and had lived in Windsor and Windsor Locks all of his life. He was employed as a mechanic by the the Windsor Locks Public Works Department for the past 2 years, and was employed by the Charter Marketing Company, formerly Mercury Oil. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Sue (Beasley) Banning; three sons, Terry S. Banning of Raleigh, N.C., Charles E.

Banning Ill and Timothy J. Banning, both of Windsor Locks; his parents, Charles E. Banning Sr. of Melborn, and Veronica Gvara of Windsor; a brother, J. Banning of Banning, Windsor Locks; a sister, Shirley M.

Susan (Weir) Cashman, 66, of 2152 Manchester Road, Glastonbury, died Wednesday (Feb. 3) at Rockville General Hospital.

She was the wife of B. Cashman. Born in Glastonbury, she was a lifelong resident. She was formerly employed as an executive secretary for the Manchester division of the American Cancer Society and later worked for the Labor Department for the State of Connecticut. She was also a deacon at the Buckingham Congregational Church.

Besides her husband, she Is survived by a son, James Cashman of Wethersfield; brother, Herbert Weir of Glastonbury; and two grandchildren, Kelly Cashman and Robert Rettmann. Funeral service will be today, 10 a.m., at the Buckingham Congregational Church, Glastonbury. Burial will be in Buckingham Cemetery. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Manchester, has charge of arrangements. DAVIS. Irving D. Davis, 65, of Hartford, died Thursday (Feb.

4) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He was born In Peacham, and had lived in Hartford over 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by six sons, Irving A. Davis with the U.S. Air Force in Korea, Paul Davis and Edward Davis, both of Hartford, Bertram Davis of Colorado, William Davis Meriden, and Douglas of Stafford Springs; a daughter, Heather Davis; three brothers; Albert Davis of East Windsor, Maurice Davis in and Bertram Davis in New Hampshire; and 7 grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday, 10 a.m., at the Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home, 20 Sisson Hartford. Interment with full Military honors will be in Soldiers Field, Northwood Cemetery, Wilson.

Casarella 96, of 168 Lewis Meriden, husband of Marla (Minucci) Casarella, died Friday (Feb. 5) at the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital after a brief Illness. He was born in Italy, son the late Michael and Mariantonia (Clani) Casarella, and was a resident of Meriden most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I.

He retired In 1957 from the International Silver Co. after 42 years of employment. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was one of the founding members and a past president of the Italian American War Veterans of the D'Amico Post. Besides his wife, he Is survived by three sons, Frank Casarella of Plantsville, Michael A.

Casarella Jr. of Southington and Mario Casarella of Laurel, 18 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Monday, 8:15 a.m., from the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main Meriden, and 9 a.m., In Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be In Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden.

Contributions may be made to the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital Hospice. CROTEAU. Muriel L. (Follert) Croteau, 72, of Dowd Canton, wife of the late Maurice J. Croteau, died Thursday (Feb.4, 1988) at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown.

She was born March 7, 1915 in Collinsville, and had lived in the Canton and Collinsville area all her life. She was employed as a manager and beautician at House of Charm in Avon for many years prior to her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the Cawasa Grange No. 34 Collinsville. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs.

Mary Ellen FIlhaber of Griswold, Mrs. Linda Boutell of Maureen Croteau of Manchester; a sister and brother-in-law Verna and Joseph Scheidel of Collinsville; three sisters-in-law, Norma Croteau of Collinsville, Betty Croteau of Michigan, and Vel Follert of Collinsville; and seven grandchildren. The funeral service will be Monday, 1 p.m., at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Tpke, Canton, with the Rev. Evans F. Sealand, officiating.

Dodd, 53, of Westchester, N.Y., died suddenly Wedneday (Feb. 3, 1988) In Peekskill, N. Y. Born In Hartford, he had lived for several years in Melrose, before moving to New York state. He was a self-employed sales representative and a Navy veteran.

He leaves two sons, A1C Stephen Dodd of March AFB, and Andrew Dodd of Melrose, his mother, Lucy (Rust) Dodd of Stuart, two brothers, Raymond Dodd of Hartford and Dr. Paul F. Dodd of Alameda, a sister, Nancy D. Smith of Kennewick, several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday, 9:15 a.m., from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington West Hartford, with a mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m., in St.

The Rev. Dr. Rolland G. Ewing, 82, of 1 Silo Circle, Storrs, died Friday (Feb.5) at Hartford Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Helen C.

(Smith) Ewing. Born July 21, 1905 In Silver Creek, Ohlo, son of the late Robert and Lillian (Boyd) EwIng. He attended public school Kenton, Ohio, and received his BA degree from Muskingum College, and attended Yale Divinity School in New Haven. Dr. Ewing was pastor of the First Congregational Church in Woodbury, 1932-38, First Congregational Church, New Mildord 1938-51, Old South Church, Boston, 1951-54, and Center Congregational Church, Torrington 1954-70, where he was made Pastor Emeritus upon his retirement.

He served as Interim Pastor in Andover, Lisbon, Coventry, and Storrs. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, James G. Ewing, Southport; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Martha) Fountain of Torrington; and three granddaughters. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb.

Margaret C. Goddard, died Feb. 4, 1988. Mother of Beatrice Erickson and Edythe Glusti, formerly of East Hartford. Funeral service will be Monday, 8 p.m., in the Juhlin-Pearson Chapel, 754 Broad Providence, R.I, Calling hour is one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., in Forestdale Cemetery, Holyoke, Mass. HEFT. John A. Heft, 94, of 69 Parker Hill Road, Killingworth, husband of Edith (Sypher) Heft, died Thursday (Feb. 4) at Middlesex Memorial Hospice after a brief Illness.

He was born in New York, N. March 4, 1893, son late John and Anna (Bischoff) ofthe Heft, and had been a resident of Killingworth for over 70 years. Mr. Heft was a retired dairy farmer and butcher. He was a 55 year member of Jeptha Lodge No.

95 a member of the Killingworth Congregational Church, the Deep River Sportsmans Club, the Essex Sportsman Club, the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Department, and a 55 year member of the Killingworth Grange. He had served KIllingworth for two terms as a representative to the State Legislature as town assessor. Mr. Heft was also a member of the Killingworth Board of Education and a member of the Killingworth Board of Selectman. In 1979, he was voted "Citizen of the Year" by the Killingworth Lions Club.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, George and John Heft, both of Killingworth, and Louis Heft of Chester; three daughters, Mrs. Al (Helen) Wettish of Meriden, Mrs. John (Doris) Kurze of Deep River and Mrs. Nelson (Evelyn) Messier of Killingworth; 15 grandchildren; 16 a greatgreat-grandchild; and two nephews. Funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenlence of the family, There are no calling hours.

JENKINS. Andrew Braham-Jenkins, 20, of 20 Florence Hartford, died Sunday (Jan. 31) in Texas.

He was born in Kingston Jamica, West Indies, and had lived in Hartford most of his life. He was a member of Eboniza Temple Church. He is survived by his mother, Beverly (Riley) Jenkins; father, Kenneth Braham; his stepfather, Harold Jenkins five brothers, Noel, Paul, Christopher, Hugh, and Harold; two sisters, Andrea, and Tasha; maternal grandparents, his paternal grandmother; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends. The funeral will be Tuesday, p.m., at Bushnell Congregational Church, Albany and Vine Hartford, with burial In Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

4, 1988) at Largo Medical Center. He was born in Hartford and was an estimator for the Whitney Chain Co. for over 35 years. He was a veteran of World War 11, having served in the U.S. Army in Guadalcanal.

He is survived by his wife, Elenor (DeLizia) Kennedy; a son, Robert Kennedy of Unionville; three daughters, Geraldine Gibbons of Unionville, Carol Castagna of East Hartford and Patricia Kennedy Orange, and five grandchildren. Funeral service will be Tuesday, 9:15 a.m., from the Rose HIll Funeral Home, 580 Elm Rocky Hill, followed by a mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m., In the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield. Blanche A. (Mozdzierz) Raipolt, 86, of 97 Great Hill Road, Moodis, wife of the late Michael Raipolt, died suddenly Thursday (Feb. 4) at her home. She Is survived by two sons, Eugene Rajpolt of East Haddam, and Michael Rajpolt of Marlborough; a daughter, Anna Kalista of Moodis; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Fritz Kleinschmidt, 50; of 122 Walkley Drive, Southington, died Friday (Feb. 5) at his home. He was the husband of Karla (Westerman) Kleinschmidt of Southington. He was born in Treptow, Germany, April 26, 1937, and had lived In Southington the last 11 years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Southington.

Besides his wife, he Is survived by a son, John of Southington; two daughters, Lisa and Allison, both of Southington. The funeral service will be Monday, 11 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church, Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the famIly. Memorial donations may be made to the Bread of Life, Southington. NAGY. Thelma C. Nagy, 66, of Westford Road, Ashford, died Friday (Feb. 5) at her home after an extended Illness.

She was born May 15, 1921, in Willington, daughter of the late Edwin and Florence (Hughes) Cushman. She was educated in the Willington schools and graduated from Windham High School in 1938. She was a member of the Ashford Baptist Church. Mrs. Nagy retired as an executive secretary from the University of Connecticut four years ago.

She Is survived by her husband, George Nagy of Ashford; a son, Gerald Nagy; and two grandchildren, Carrie and Kathryn Nagy, all of Springfield, a sister, Sylvia Pokorny of Merrow; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Monday, 1:30 p.m., at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Willimantic. Burlal will follow in the Willington HIll Cemetery. Mrs. Meister was a member of Beth Hillel Synagogue of Bloomfield and the Sisterhood of Beth Hillel Synagogue. Mrs. Melster was the former secretary to Rabbi Philip Lazowski of Beth Hillel Synagogue. She leaves her daughter, Mrs.

Irving (Estelle) Spungin of West Hartford, with whom she made her home; three sons, J. Sidney Melster of Miami, Herbert B. Meister of Warwick, R.I,, and Jerome F. Melster of Holliston, a brother, Eugene Steinberg of Delray Beach, 11 grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren. Funeral service will be Sunday, 12 noon, in the chapel of the Weinsteln Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave.

Born in Portugal, he lived his life with his wife, Marla DeJesus, for 58 years and together both worked all their lives on their farm in Portugal. He is survived by his wife, Maria De Jesus; nine children and In-laws, Manuel and Armendina Costar Nelson and Lidia Nasclmento, Antonio and lida Nascimento, Albertino and Alexandrina Nascimento, Cesar and Natalia Nascimento, lida and Jose Pina, Maria and Abel Ramos, Salete and Joao Cabral, Lidia and Fernando Almeida; 16 grandchildren, Jose Gullherme Nascimento, Maria Fiano, Manuel Pina, Jose Nascimento, Jose Ramos, Natalia Nascimento, Antonio Cabral, Teresa Cabral, Jose Almelda, Fernanda Almelda, Elisabeth Nascimento, Jennifer Nascimento, Paul Nascimento, Rul Nascimento, Carlos Nascimento and Christina Nascimento; and four great-grandchildren, Michael, Elisabeth, Nancy and Melissa. Theodore Hayden Robbins of 5409 17th Ave. South, Gulfport, died Jan. 22, 1988. Born in New London, he had moved to Florida from Bristol In 1967. He was a purchasing agent for the Ingraham Col.

and was a member of the Methodist Church In Bristol. He was a member of the Bristol Fish Game Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Gulfport, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Irene; nieces and nephews. National Cremation Society, Clearwater, had charge of arrangement PEAKE. Robert Lee Peake, 41, of 40- Bellevue Square, Hartford, son of Leroy and Hattie Peake, departed this life Monday (Feb.

1) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Selma, he had lived In the Hartford area the last 11 years. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Inez Peake; five sons, Leon Peake of Hartford, Robert John Edward and Henry Peake, and Courtney Haynes, all in Alabama; three daughters, Letisha Peake of Hartford, Rosie and Wanda Peake, both in Alabama; six brothers, McArthur Peake of Hartford, Roy Lee Peake in Georgia, Andrew Peake In Hawail, Leon, Charlie and the Rev. Willie Ed Peake, all In Alabama; four sisters, Lucy Peake in Ohio, Thelma, Carolyn and Willle Lee Peake, all In Alabama. Alexander Poplaski, 81, of West Road, Colchester, died Friday (Feb. 5) at Colchester Convalescent Home. He was born July 6, 1909 in the Ukraine, son of the late Anthony and Alice Poplaski.

He was married to Anna (Klemark), He was a retired autobody mechanic for the Hilltop Motors. He formerly owned Al's Auto Body in Colchester. Mr. Poplaski was a member of the Lyme Art Association, and was a well known artist In the Colchester area, He was a World War 11 Army veteran. Besides his wife, he Is survived by a brother, John Poplaski of Datona Beach, three sisters, Olga Chopp of Salem, Anna Jackson, of Colchester and Antonette Thorton of Colchester; and several nieces and nephews.

John A. Rainford, 79, of Daytona Beach, died Thursday (Feb. 4) at his residence. He was born In Hightown, Lancashire, England, moving to Daytona, In 1974 from Storrs. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy.

A memorial service will be Sunday, 2 p.m., in the South Lounge of Cotonial Colony South, Daytona Beach, Fla. ST.JOHN. Isabel Magee) St. John, 87, formerly of 15 Woodland St. Hartford, died Friday (Feb.

5) at a local convalescent home. Born in Hartford she was a life-long resident. She had been employed by Sage-Allen Co. In Hartford for many years and by Connecticut Compensating Rating Bureau in Hartford prior to retiring in 1967. Her late husband, Russell G.

St.John was formerly the chief plumbing inspector for the City of Hartford. She is survived by a son, Russell G. St. John of North Granby; a daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Audrey) Weaver of Burlington, a sister, Mrs.

Weiss, 49, of Kent Lane, Farmington, husband of Mrs. Mariann (Croft) Welss, died Wednesday (Feb. '3) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Waterbury, July 29, 1938, he was the son of Walter and Ann (Rabenko) Weiss of Naugatuck and grew up in Naugatuck, residing in Farmington the last 11 years. He was employed at Stanley Works, New Britain, for 25 years.

He was an Army veteran of Vietnam conflict. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Lawrence Welss and Jason Weiss, both of Farmington; a sister, Karen W. Slater of Naugatuck; and a nephew, Christopher Slater of Naugatuck. Memorial service will be Sunday, 3 p.m., in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 170 Coen Naugatuck. Angel Velez, 35, of Hartford, formerly of Willimantic, died Thursday (Feb. 4) unexpectedly at Hartford Hospital, He was born May 31, 1952 in Cabo Rolo, Puerto Rico, the son of Dolores Velez of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, and Della Rodriguez of Willimantic. He was a former resident of Willimantic for 17 years, where he graduated from Windham High School.

He was currently a Police Cadet at the Hartford Police Accademy. He was a U.S. Army veteran, with nine years of active duty, and was currently serving in the Army Reserve. Besides his parents, he is survived by a son, Roul Velez In Germany; two brothers, William Velez of Willimantic, and Jose A. Velez of Meriden; two sisters, Margarita Withee of Willimantic, and Aida Rivera of Windham Center; and several nieces and nephews.

Wilks, 92, formerly of Center Street, Manchester, died Friday (Feb. 5) at a Manchester convalescent home. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, Jan. 10, 1896, and had lived most of his life In Wethersfield before coming to Manchester In 1979. Before retirement, he was an insurance underwriter for the Travelers Insurance Hartford, for over 40 years.

He was a veteran of World War serving In the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Nissen) Wilks, with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in June 1987; a son, John K. Wilks of Manchester; a daughter, Elaine Miskunas of Manchester; six grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
