Mario A. Alipio, 74, of Newington, beloved husband for 52 years of Balbina (Izabel) Alipio, died unexpectedly Monday (April 8, 2002). Born in Newark, NJ, on January 12, 1928, he lived in Newington 31 years. Before retiring, he was employed by Veeder-Root Company for 38 years and Building Maintenance Corporation for 29 years, both of Hartford. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford, and the Portuguese Club of Hartford.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mario J. Alipio, Jr. of Newington; two daughters, Maria J. Alipio of Dennis, MA, Donna J. Newington; and Foxy, his faithful and loyal companion that he loved to take for walks.

Also surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Maria Fernandez, Linda and Antonio Oliveira, all of Naugatuck; two brothers-in-law and a sister-inlaw, Joseph Izabel of East Hartford, John and Barbara Izabel of East Granby. The funeral is Thursday, 9:15 a.m. from the SheehanHilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was the widow of Kenneth A. Anderson who died in 1974. A lifelong New Britain resident, Ethel graduated from New Britain High School with the Class of 1927.

She was a member of Stanley Memorial Church, was a former deaconess of church and was a member of Sons and the Daughters of Liberty and Unity Rebekah Lodge. Surviving are two sons, John D. Anderson of Bristol, and Ronald K. Anderson of Southington; two grandchildren, Robert Ciemniewski, Jr. and Keri Jaye Ciemniewski, both of Plainville; and a great granddaughter, Jayelind Morgan Donnelly.

Blanche was born in Rutland, VT, daughter of the late Clarance and Mable Temple, she had lived in Windsor Locks for many years and most recently resided at Mark Twain Housing in Enfield. George A. Jones, 73, of Arlington, VA, formerly Old Saybrook, husband of the late Mary S. Jones, died Friday (April 5, 2002). He was born in Ansonia, son of Almon and Cora (McLaughlin) Jones. He joined the Merchant in 1944, and the U.S Air 1950, attainMarines, ing the rank of staff sergeant.

He was an electrician and weight estimator at Electric Boat in Groton for many years, and was then self employed as a weight estimator in Arlington, VA. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy A. McKenzie and her husband Andrew of Old Saybrook; and two grandchildren, Zaida and William. He was predeceased by Casey A. Jones.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. DEATH NOTICES BRIGGS, Virginia F. Virginia F. Briggs, 80, formerly of Manchester, passed away in Jacksonville, FL on Tuesday (April 9, 2002). She was employed for many years as a medical technician and was also a coordinator for Meals on Wheels in Manchester.

She was a longtime member of South United Methodist Church and past president of the Women's Society. Committed to social justice, she was deeply involved in the Civil Rights Movement and a member of Manchester Interfaith Social Action Committee (MISAC). Though housebound in her recent years, she continued her work in the things she believed in by knitting layettes for the babies at Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fl. The widow of Walker W. Briggs, she leaves three daughters, Cynthia W.

Briggs of South Fallsburg, NY, Margaret B. Smith and her husband Christopher of Barkhamsted, and Melissa B. Kelly and her husband Jim of Jacksonville, FL, with whom she made her home; a sister, Cynthia Fisher of Shrewsbury, 1 MA; four loving grandchildren, Geoffrey, Abigail and Alexander Smith, and Christina Barlow; a granddaughter, Katherine Barlow; many nieces and nephews; and Serendipity. He was the widower of Rosemary (Zimmitti) Brown. A member of St. Mary Church, Newington, he also belonged to their Church Dinner Club, the Clan Douglas Order of Scottish Clans, the New England Air Museum and was a World War U.S. Air Force Veteran. David is survived by two daughters, Susan and her husband, Walter Anderson of Middletown, Carol and her husband, Gerald Cloutier of Torrington; a son, David Brown, Jr.

DESMARAIS, John Zoel John Zoel Desmarais, 84, of Berlin, passed away Tuesday, (April 9, 2002) at New Britain General Hospital. Mr. Desmarais was the son of Remi and Elise (Fontaine) Desmarais and was the husband of the late Priscilla Desmarais. A veteran having served in the US Army during World War Il he was retired from the State of Connecticut where he was employed as a custodian. He was a member of the American Legion, and Saint Paul's Church, Kensington.

Mr. Desmarais is a sister and brother-in-law, Simone and Sylvio Gagnon; two daughters, Emma Airoldi of South Windsor and Virginia Gregoire of Broadbrook; 11 grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren. And many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry and Abel Desmarais; three sisters, Emelda Desmarais, Olivette Chagand Marie O'Mara. Dexter died Tuesday (April 9, 2002) at do local convalescent home. Born in Hartford, she was raised in Windsor and lived in West Hartford for many years before joining her son Barry's family in Bolton. She managed an insurance agency for many years and in her 50's she accepted the challenge of learning computer systems and joined the Aetna where she retired in 1985 as a system liaison administrator. Mrs. Dexter served on the West Hartford Board of Education and many years on the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Republican Women.

She was a past president of the West Hartford school's PTA and headed a March of Dimes Connecticut statewide campaign. She leaves her son and wife, Barry and Marie Dexter and her granddaughter, Melanie Dexter all of Bolton; three brothers and their wives, Allen and Edith Gaudet of Bloomfield, Norman and Anne Gaudet of Newington, and and Pat Gaudet of Stafford Springs; her sister, Dorothy Christensen of West Hartford; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who were important to her. She was predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Potz. The funeral will be Friday April 12, 11 a.m. at St.

James Episcopal Church, 19 Walden Drive, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. She was born January 1922, in Chicopee, MA, to the late Roland and Catherine Auclair. She was a member of the Enfield Congregational Church where she was a volunteer at the Nearly New Shop and was a Sunday school teacher. Besides her church activities she was a former Girl Scout Leader and her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and gardening. Dorothy was very active many years as an Avon sales representative. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Howard Edgar, Jr.

of Enfield; a daughter, Cynthia A. Edgar of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Roland Auclair of Springfield, MA, and Douglas Auclair of Vermont; a sister, Elizabeth Mroz of Somers. FRAZER, Burton Oliver Burton Oliver Frazer, 87, East Hampton, husband of the late Dorothy Jane (Marthins) Frazer, died Tuesday, (April 9, 2002) at Chestelm Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Haddam. Born in Cromwell, he was the son of the late John and Myrtle (Waters) Frazer.

Mr. Frazer had lived in Wethersfield since 1964 and had been employed at Bradley International Airport for 30 years as an Air Traffic Controller. He was a member of the South Congregational Church of Hartford, the Cromwell Masons, Washington Lodge AF AM. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a Little League Umpire. He is survived by a daughter, Diane L.

Frazer of East Hampton; three sons, Barry R. Frazer and his wife, Jackie of Wallingford, Donald W. Frazer and his wife, Susan of Wethersfield and Burton O. He was the co-owner of Advanced Aerospace, New Britain. Besides his wife he is survived by his son daughter-in-law, Anthony and Pamela Guerrero of Vernon; a son, David Guerrero of Mount Holly, NJ; a daughter and son-inlaw, Ingrid and Christopher Cardono of East Hartford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jose and Mary Guerrero of West Hartford, and Victor and Carmen Guerrero of Peru; two half brothers, Augustine and Ramon Guerrero of Peru; three sisters, Luz Vigil, Gloria Vera and Carmella Bedoya all of Peru; a half sister, Rosa Espinoza of Peru; his cherished grandchildren, Randy and Cory Jerr, Michelle and Marissa Cardono and Kelly Guerrero; and several nieces and nephews. GUNTHER, Frederick Jr. Frederick H. Gunther, died peacefully at home Mon(April 8, 2002) surrounded by his family. He was born in Lowell, MA, the son of the late Frederick H. Gunther, Sr.

and Gladys (Shanks) Gunther and grew up in Dracut, MA. After graduation from Dracut High School, Fred served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1950. He settled in Windsor Locks in the mid 1950's, where he spent many years working in the grocery distribution industry and raised his family. He enjoyed gardening, model building, flying, and was deeply involved as a Scout Master.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Mary Lou; ten children, Gladys Tease Rick Gunther and Diana Ricci, Doug Gunther and his wife, Karen, Sandy von Tish and her husband, Eric, Joan Crouse and her husband, Jeff, Marie Allen and her husband, Michael, George Backhaus and his wife, Christine, John Gunther, Nancy Backhaus, Mike Gunther and his wife, Debra; 20 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his brother, William and his wife, Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Anne (Squires) Gunther. Fred's family will receive friends Thursday, April 11, 5-8 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Windsor Locks. He was the father of Martin Hmielewski of S. Windham, Jo-Anne (Emil) Haberern of Broad Brook, Barbara Ray of E. Hartford, Fred (Skip) Ray of Manchester. Brother of Albina (Stanley) Stopa of Ivoryton and Charles (Phyllis) Hmielewski of Florida. Also survived by two grandsons, Stephen and Daniel Haberern; his beloved companion, Delores Behrend; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife Josephine Berchulski Hmielewski; his second wife, Lynn Ray Hmielewand his brother, Michael Chielewski. He was an avid baseball fan and fisherman. A member of St. John's Parish, Old Saybrook, the Sportsman Club and the Westbrook Elks. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II.

JACOBS, Judith (MacElroy) Judith (MacElroy) Jacobs, 57, passed away peacefully at home Monday (March 18, 2002) sur-rounded by her family and friends. She was born in Hartford and lived most of her life in East Hartford.

She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Carolyn (Hanmer) MacElroy. She is survived by her ex-husband, Jerry Jacobs; a daughter, Kristen Jacobs of East Hartford; a son, Kevin and his wife Cindy; and three granddaughters, Samantha, Courtney and Morgan of West Hartford; and her partner, Thomas Boss of East Hartford. She was a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church. Her life revolved around her family, children, grandchildren and her love and knowledge of birds, flowers and gardening.

Stephen J. Kelly, 83, of Say- brook Road, Middletown, died Tuesday, (March 19, 2002) at Middlesex Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Husband to Mary Schmarr Kelly. He was born in New Britain on August 1, 1918, son of the late James and Anne (McKeough) Kelly. He has lived in Middletown for the past three years, formerly of Old Saybrook and New Britain.

He was retired Fire Chief for the city of New Britain from 1962-1974. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of New Britain and a former member of the Westbrook Lodge of Elks. He was a World War Il Veteran serving in the US Navy. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, William Kelly of Guilford, Stephen F. Kelly of Southington, Michael T.

Kelly of Venice, FL, and Christopher Kelly of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Marie Cowell of Old Saybrook; and a sister, Sister Ann Mary Kelly of St. Joseph's of West Hartford; ten grandchildren; and a great grandchild. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. in St. John's RC Church, Old Saybrook.

Born in Simsbury, daughter of the late Stanislaw and Boleslawa (Kuklinski) Krupa. She had lived in West Hartford most of her life. Before retiring in 1982, she was employed for over 20 years at the State of Connecticut, Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a communicant of SS. Cyril Methodius Church.

She was the beloved sister of Zygmunt Krupa of West Hartford, Claire and her husband, Edwin Kosak of East Hartford. She also leaves a niece, Debra and her husband, Thomas Grote of Middletown. She was predeceased by a sister, Cecelia B. Krupa. Funeral services will be held TODAY, April 10, 10:30 a.m.

at the South Green Memorial Home. MILARDO, Frances (Hollister) Frances (Hollister) Milardo, 83, of Cromwell formerly of South Glastonbury widow of John E. Milardo, died Sunday (April 7, 2002) at home. Born November 20, 1918 in South Glastonbury daughter of the late Walter S. and Vera (Culver) Hollister she had lived in South Glastonbury until moving to Cromwell in 1994.

Mrs. Milardo was a member Luke's Episcopal Church in South Glastonbury. She had served the church in many capacities as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the choir, the Vestry and the E.C.W. Years ago she worked in her husband's drug store at the soda fountain. She is survived by a son, Walter J.

Milardo, of Haddam; two brothers, David Hollister and Calvin Hallister both of South Glastonbury; and two granddaughters, Stacey Milardo of Encinitas, CA, and Jennifer Milardo of Middletown. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Main South Glastonbury. Burial will be in Old Church Cemetery, Glastonbury.
