St. Joseph AnnouncesSchedule of Lectures The president and faculty of St. Joseph College, West Hartford. have announced the 1955-1956 schedule of the McAuley Lecture Sereis. The first will be given by the Rev.

Daniel Linehan, S. J. on Oct. 4. Father Linehan will discuss "Scientific Studies in the Polar Regions." The subject of the second will be "Biological Adaptation as a Pattern for Survival" to be given by Dr.

Caroline A. Chandler, on April 12. H. Austin Taylor will give the final lecture on April 26. His subject will be "science for What?" The lecture series is open to the public without charge.

All talks will be held at the College Auditorium at 8 p.m. Churches Help Share U.S. Food Surplus NEW YORK -Thousands of persons in distress areas will have received by the end of this year over 140 million pounds of U.S. government surplus foods shipped by American Protestant and Eastern Orthodox denominations. It will cost the churches about $1 million to ship, the food.

School Of Christian Living Planned For Six Weeks A six-week study course on the Acts of the Apostles will be one of the fee features this year of the School Christian Living. TO BE HONORED: Dr. Douglas Horton, new dean of Harvard Divinity School, will be honored by 400 representatives of Congregational Christian Churches and numerous religious agencies at a dinner at Riverside Church. New York. Sept. 21.

His appointment at Harvard this summer closes a 17-year career as minister of the General Council of the Congregational Christian Churches. The prominent church leader has Connecticut ties. He was graduated from the Hartford Theological Seminary in 1915, and one of his pastorates was in Middletown. At the dinner, presentation will be made of a Douglas Horton scholarship fund, being raised by Congregationalists to help Congregational students from overseas attend Harvard Divinity School. Wadstrom. Rural Life Leaders Plan Springfield Talks Some 2,000 rural life leaders will converge on Springfield, Oct. 18-20, for the annual national Convocation on the Church in Town and Country. Delegates will include ministers. rural sociologists, executives of denominations, college teachers, and government leaders.

The convocation has been held annually since 1943. under sponsorship of the National Council of Churches. Speakers will include True D. Morse, under secretary of agriculture: Nathan Tufts, former president of the Connecticut River Watershed Council president of the New "England Forestery Foundation: Henrichsen, Methodist minister to seven parishes in Maine author of the book, "Seven Steeples." Laurel Garden Club The Laurel Garden Club will meet jointly with the Glastonbury Club at Wells Turner Library, Glastonbury, Monday eveat 8 o'clock. NEW YORK-The aged displaced persons, living at Lutheran old people's home at Berchtesgaden, Germany, heard about flood suffering in the northeast of the United States- and decided to help as much as they could.
